You also need to consider your image sizes. The max width of your site is set in the customiser. This determines the max-width of any images you upload. I always edit before uploading and then run them through a compressor. It’s also a good idea to convert to webp (Google likes this format).
You can install a page builder but this will undo all your hard work and slow the site back down again. Much better to learn how to use blocks.
